The reservoir, known as Amselsee, quickly developed into a tourist attraction in the community of Rathen. The approximately 540 meter long body of water is surrounded by a series of climbing rocks, of which the locomotive is the most famous. There were initially 12 rowing boats and 12 sloops available for boat trips on the lake. On July 5, 1957, a heavy cloudburst caused extensive damage to the dam and the lake, which partially silted up. In 1983 the previous boats were replaced by 30 new sheet steel boats. Ten years later (1993) the lake was dredged, disposing of around 5,000 m³ of mud and sand. The flood in August 2002 made it necessary to dredge around 3,000 m³ of sand and mud again in 2003. From 2004 onwards, the dam wall, the path leading along the lake and the purchase of 20 new rowing boats were renovated.

      An incredibly clear lake.

Created in 1934 to promote tourism, flood protection and fish farming, the Amselsee is incredibly romantic in the valley, with the locomotive above.
