Tips

In addition to mountain and glacier you can see numerous marmots and, with a little luck, ibex. Quite apart from the view of the 3,798 m high Großglockner. The Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe gets its name because the Kaiser, together with his Sisi, probably admired Austria's highest mountain at exactly this point.

  • The parking garage is huge and free!
If you are smart, you drive up to the top deck, "sun deck", from there you have a beautiful view and you can go directly into the marmot path and hike to the Svarowski observation point.

  • The Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe owes its name to the Habsburg regent, who visited Carinthia in 1856 together with his wife Empress Elisabeth, known as Sisi.
On this occasion, the mountain-loving monarch undertook a hike of several hours from Heiligenblut, which led him to the edge of the Glockner Glacier Pasterze. This place, from which his Majesty Franz Joseph admired the 3,798 m high Grossglockner, is named after him.
Today you can easily reach the truly imperial vantage point on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road by car, motorcycle or bus and, in addition to mountains and glaciers, observe numerous cute marmots and, with a bit of luck, the impressive ibexes.grossglockner.at/gg/de/grossglockner/kaiserfranzjosefshoehe

  • Great view of the Grossglockner. From there you can also take the glacier cable car down for a fee. Very interesting 10 years ago, this year the glacier is unfortunately just a lake. Still worth it. The journey via the Glöckner High Alpine Road alone is worth a visit.

  • Visiting the exhibitions in the visitor center is highly recommended, at least when the weather is bad. Above all, I was fascinated by the glacier theme

  • From the height you have a great view of the Großglockner and the surrounding mountains. Of course, there is also the possibility of hiking or visiting the exhibitions.
