The hamlet of San Pellegrino in Alpe has a pilgrimage church which is clearly visible above the valley.
From the village you have an impressive view over the Garfagnana, the Apennine ridge and the Apuan Alps.
Once you have arrived from Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, the path to the Passo delle Radici is not far away. However, you have a pretty demanding tour behind you and get on the way here so many 18% shield to face.
Still ... it's worth it.

very tough climb rewarded by fantastic views of the Apuane and the Apennines

The highest country in the Apennines.
The climb of San Pellegrino in Alpe, on the Tuscan side, has extremely difficult sections with peaks of gradient of 18% making it one of the most difficult climbs in the entire Apennines and has been tackled several times in the Giro d'Italia in the 1989, 1995, 2000 editions .
