Hiking Highlight
hike
Through the Verena gorge to the castle WaldeggEasy hike for the whole family. From the bus stop Rüttenen you can reach in a few minutes the hermitage with the Verena Chapel, the St. Martin's Chapel, the hermit's house and various caves. Where St. Verena used to have been, a hermit still lives today. Continue through the pleasantly cool Verena gorge. A French nobleman, driven away by the revolutionaries, had the idyllic path along the Verenabach built in the style of a romantic landscape garden at the end of the 18th century. If you want to take a break, you can make a short detour to the Restaurant Kreuzen or sit a few hundred meters after the exit of the gorge in the secluded, shaded by old chestnut trees garden of the restaurant Pintli. Shortly thereafter, Schloss Waldegg is already reached. An exhibition in the castle highlights the great time in which Solothurn was the seat of the French ambassadors. Through the Lindenallee, whose lower part still has the original trees, then go down to the Aare and finally along the river to Solothurn.
