The historical center of Biar bears witness to a rich medieval history. Like so many Spanish villages, it consists of a labyrinth of narrow and steep streets where it is easy to get lost. The Castillo on the mountain top is the town's landmark and can be seen from afar. The Castilian knight and Spanish national hero El Cid is also said to have passed this way.

CASTILLO DE BIAR - The mother of all castles and the knight El CidThe Castillo de Biar, in which the "liberator of Valencia", Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar - known as El Cid, who was probably born in 1045 (other sources refer to Burgos), is, so to speak, the mother of all castles in the area. Not because it is the oldest, but because it holds all the historical strands together. Also because it presents itself as any child would draw a castle: with towers, battlements, courtyards, a thick wall around it and all of that on a mountain, here at 750 meters, at the foot of which a tired village begs for shade.Met friendly people, had nice conversations. Biar is a blast, you should take another look at the old town on foot and take a closer look, a stroll is worth it.👍
