The Gösgen power plant, built in 1917, is one of the largest run-of-river power plants on the Aare with an annual production of around 300 GWh. Between 1997 and 2000, the power plant was completely renewed and today produces twelve percent more electricity with the same amount of water. In 2004, a new fish ladder was put into operation at the weir in Winznau. The Gösgen power plant is one of the strongest running power plants on the Aare. The power plant has a 4.8 km long canal.AarestromFlood protection and revitalization project on the Aare between Olten and Aarau
