The Sausalito Bike Path runs through Mill Valley. It's a paved route with great views of the wetlands on the old Northwest-Pacific rail line, which operated from 1884 until its closure in 1971. The path ends near Mike’s Bikes in Marin City, where riders can continue along the busy Bridgeway into Sausalito or take quieter marina backroads.
Straight and flat trail on former rail line leading through wetlands with great views of the bay and the Marin mountains. To see two options how to navigate around the Alto hill for continuation further north see komoot.de/tour/14120943
Mill Valley-Sausalito Bike Trail is a paved, separated-lane, flat path through the wetlands on the former rail bed of the Northwest-Pacific Cazadero-Sausalito line which ran since 1884 but sadly was closed in 1971, including the tunnel which hopefully can be reopened with more community pressure to avoid the steep incline on Camino Alto to connect further north.
It is used heavily by commuter bikers from Marin into San Francisco, and recreational bikers and pedestrians on the weekends, including those accessing the Mount Tam roads and mountain bike trails from here.
It ends near the Mike's Bikes store in Marin City, where one can either follow the shoulder of 4-lane Bridgeway into Sausalito, or work one's way through the marina backroads for less traffic and better views of the bay, house boats, and restaurants.
