Bike Touring Highlight
As early as August 1, 1975, the "Duhner Heide" received the status of a landscape protection area. This was intended to protect the extremely rare crowberry heather that occurs here, as well as the very valuable intermediate bog that has arisen due to the lack of nutrients in the dunes and heather.

This is where the heather and the North Sea meet. Unique in Germany.

The Duhner Heide belongs to the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. The beautiful landscape in this area is that the heather grows so close to the Wadden Sea with its salt marshes. In the distance you can see the island of Neuwerk and the caravan wagons to Neuwerk.

Beautiful heathland with a view of the island of Neuwerk

Small offshoot of the Lüneburg Heath, but still very beautiful when it blooms.

Very nice, especially if you can drive at times (seasons and times of the day) when there are no crowds around.

The cycle path along the Duner Heide is slightly elevated and therefore offers a beautiful view of the sea. Unfortunately it is sometimes very busy.
