The water view at Galgenvenn is truly remarkable as it is always different at different times of the year.

A beautiful viewpoint of the moor landscape.

The footbridge in the Galgenvenn leads a few meters out onto the Venn and offers a beautiful all-round view. The heath and moor landscape lies like a clearing between the pine trees of the border forest. The landscape is characterized by sandy, dry soils. In some areas, however, there are clay layers accumulating close to the surface. Rainwater could collect here, creating nutrient-poor heath lakes and moor areas. Many animals and plants that occur here are on the Red List of Endangered Species. You can discover moor frogs, alpine newts, sand lizards and a variety of dragonflies here. Flowering bell heather and cotton grass are typical of this mosaic of dry and waterlogged soils.
Flax caves can also still be seen near the jetty as rectangular water holes. They are evidence of flax cultivation, which was widespread in the region until the end of the 19th century. The flax was sunk in bundles into these pits until the decomposition process separated the bark parts from the fibers. These flax fibers were spun and processed into textiles.
