Group shelters, part of the "Position at Spaarndam" from the early 20th century. From nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positie_bij_Spaarndam :In 1917, the position was expanded with a representation in the forecourt consisting of trenches and dozens of concrete group shelters. A front wall was added with a front moat in front of it over the entire length. These defenses are located to the left and right of the Slaperdijk a few hundred meters west of the line wall. The First World War ended before the work was finished. Shortly after the war, a small part, on the front wall, was completed.Current situationMany features of the original position have been preserved. The military and inundation works are still visible in the terrain and many objects are provincial monuments. The later group shelters south of the Slaperdijk are still clearly visible in the terrain, but on the north side many have been absorbed into the Munition Forest. The latter is a large ammunition storage facility built in the fifties, but no longer in use as such. The buildings and trees largely obscure the view of the group shelters.
