The medieval Siechen Chapel near Rövenich has stood the test of time. It was built during the great epidemics in the 15th century. It is located next to the Roman Agrippastraße, which was built over by a modern federal highway.
Like many other Roman highways, the Agrippa Road continued to be used in the Middle Ages. At that time, infirmaries for lepers who suffered from the plague, leprosy or other infectious diseases were built on such transport routes, including just outside Zülpich. They lived there - isolated - on alms and donations. So that the sick could beg enough, infirmaries were often located at busy intersections like this one.
