The Norbertine Abbey is a piece of living spirituality and (church) culture. About 30 brothers live here, whose day is structured by three common prayer times: morning prayer, the Eucharistic celebration (noon) and evening prayer. If you want, you can take part. Even if you are not a believer, the chants and prayers may give you a moment of rest and reflection.
On the site you will also find an adventure center dedicated to traditional handicraft activities. The old farm buildings now house a monastery café with its own brewery, a bakery and a monastery shop.
By the way: You can also stay in one of the guest rooms.

The Abbey of Averbode can look back on a rich history that has already spanned ten centuries. It was founded in 1134 on the initiative of Arnold II, Count of Loon. Agriculture is soon practiced, which ensures quality of life. Over the centuries, however, the abbey has undergone many trials: looting, fires, the plague,… At the end of the 18th century, it was even sold and demolished. From the 19th century it goes back uphill. Monastic life is resumed and the abbey becomes the hub of many activities: missionary work, a publishing house,… In the 20th century, the Premonstratensians founded several schools. Today, Averbode Abbey is looking full ahead, including a versatile basket of products and a brand new experience centre.

The Abbey of Averbode was founded in 1135 on the initiative of Arnold II, Count of Loon.
It was originally a 'double monastery' in which both men and women lived, in the beginning of the 13th century it was definitively 'deduplicated'.
It is an abbey of the Premonstratensians, also called Norbertines or Witheren and has 78 members, 45 of whom live and work in the abbey.
The Gothic gatehouse, built in the second half of the 14th century, is the oldest surviving part.
Today, the abbey houses a guest quarter, a local produce shop and a reflection center.
To the left of the abbey is the Maria Park with a series of original groups of statues.
In the summer months you can also enjoy a delicious ice cream in the lekdreef!
