The nature protection farm exists since 1985 and is operated since then with large honorary commitment. It is located in the beautiful Lower Rhine countryside in the midst of the cross-border nature park "Maas-Schwalm-Nette" and offers visitors of all ages exciting discoveries about nature in the vicinity of man - from sheep over wildflower meadows, from raised beds to fruit trees. From a distance, it is recognizable by its landmark, the "life tower" with numerous nesting aids for birds, insects and small mammals - it is a symbol of how nature can overcome boundaries.

The responsible use of our nature and the natural garden design are in the foreground of the nature reserve. The lovingly designed outdoor area offers fascinating experience rooms with exemplary nature, silence and beauty.
Here you can actively and consciously practice nature while at the same time receiving practical, varied and stimulating ideas for your own garden design. A tour leads through the varied landscape with ponds, biotopes, medicinal, aromatic and herb garden, a bale of straw from renewable resources and much more. An eight-meter high lifeguard, the widely visible symbol of the since 1985 existing nature reserve, offers shelter to indigenous, partially endangered bird species as well as insects and smaller mammals. The interior features a wealth of written information on ecological topics such as horticulture, bird protection, bats, and the like.Events in the nature reserve
The Nature Conservation Team carries out exciting, age-appropriate natural history events for various groups (kindergartens, school classes, handicapped people) on various topics (guided tours of the nature reserve, ralley to herbs, construction of nesting aids, etc.). A registration is required. In spring and in Hernst a plant exchange takes place every year, in which private individuals can exchange plants, buy and sell. In addition, a seasonal opening is held in the spring and a Thanksgiving event in the fall, where u.a. fresh fruit from local orchards is sold.
