Park and Villa Bergfried

On a hill to the south of the city Saalfeld is the listed building complex Park & ​​Villa Bergfried. The chocolate manufacturer Dr. Ernst Hüther had it built between 1922 and 1924. For many Saalfeld citizens, the Bergfried Park is a recreational destination and a real insider tip for their guests.Old trees provide tranquility and security and the extensive park with its numerous resting places offers a very good view of the city and the Saale valley. The extensive Japanese garden testifies to this and is unique in its existence in Thuringia. It was extensively restored in 2001. The villa is particularly impressive with the use of native limestone and slate. The upper floors were reserved for private use. Meanwhile, the ground floor was used for social events. Under the roof was a large gaming room, a theater stage and a cinema for the children of the family.
