Hoek van Holland is a unique coastal town. It has the charm of a small artists' village. When the weather is nice, the beach and pier beckon. And when the weather isn't so good, the town captivates with its picturesque charm. Its location at the mouth of the Rhine is simply unique. Imposing seagoing vessels—from freighters from the Far East to luxury cruise ships—enter the Port of Rotterdam via the "Nieuwe Waterweg" (New Waterway).

Hoek van Holland (German corner of Holland) is now a municipality of Rotterdam, but has retained the character of a small coastal town and seaside resort. It is located in South Holland at the main estuary of the Rhine. This stream section of the Rhine is called here for river history reasons but Oude Maas (Old Maas) and was built in 1872 to the so-called Nieuwe Waterweg (Neuer Wasserweg). Neighboring towns are Monster, 's-Gravenzande and Naaldwijk in the northwest and Maassluis in the southeast. On the other side of the river lie the Europoort and Maasvlakte (Wikipedia).
