The dam on the Untreubach was created in 1976 and completed within five years. The dam was planned and built as an Ölsnitztalsperre. [3] The lake is around two kilometers long and 700 meters wide and has a maximum water depth of 15 meters. In normal traffic jams it covers an area of 0.6 square kilometers, which corresponds to approximately 84 soccer fields. Several streams are dammed in the valley of the Ölsnitz. The overflow of the lake flows almost one kilometer behind the dam between the Hof district of Moschendorf and Döhlau as Ölsnitz in the Saale. The dam is designed as an earth dam. The flood relief has a fixed crown overflow over which a bridge leads. The reserve is a biotope.
