The Varel windmill, which the last Varel count Gustav Adolf von Bentinck had built between 1847 and 1848, is a Dutch gallery with a typical three-part structure made of stone, here five-storey substructure, the wooden structure of the "octagon" and the cap with the wings. It measures 29,80 meters to the tip of the cap and 39 meters to the tip of the upright wings. A pair of wings is 24 meters long. This makes the Vareler windmill the second highest mill in Germany and one of the largest gallery Dutch ever.
