The history of the Mylof Dam begins in the mid-19th century with the Prussian army's need for hay for cavalry horses.
For this purpose, in 1849, a dam and a reservoir were built, also known as Lake Mylof, which was in fact an expanded riverbed of the Brda River, collecting and accumulating water that divided into numerous branches, up to the so-called Czerskie Łąki - the actual place of production of strategic hay.
The Mylof Dam is one of the oldest in Poland and the only step dam.
Over time, hay production was replaced by electricity production - the waters of Lake Mylof began to power turbines in the hydroelectric power plant that is still in operation today.

The Great Brda Canal was built in the mid-19th century to irrigate the surrounding meadows, and it was also used to float wood cleared from the local forests. The canal is 21 km long, starts at the dam in Mylof and ends near the village of Barłogi.

Right at the beginning of the "Great Brda Canal" there are the reservoirs of the "Trout Breeding Plant in Mylof", built in 1974. There is a company store near the dam, where you can always get trout and sturgeon in various forms. It's worth visiting.
