Since 1949, the oldest national park in Slovakia has the goal of nature conservation in the mountains of the High Tatras, the Western Tatras and the Belianske Tatras. Here is the highest peak of the Carpathian arc as well as Slovakia, Gerlachovský The peak is 2655 m above sea levelTatra National Park covers an area of 73,800 ha (own territory 738 km2 and the protection zone 307 km2) It offers more than 1300 animal and plant species. Since 1993, together with the Polish Tatras National Park, part of the UNESCO biosphere reserves.In the Tatras you can still find all Carpathian predators such as red fox, lynx, wolf or brown bear.
