Mountain Biking Highlight
The building of the former home school on Lake Laacher still stands today on a plateau of the municipality Nickenich at the intersection of the national road 116 from Maria Laach to Nickenich on the one hand and the road 57 in the direction of Kell on the other hand on a hiking trail to Andernach. The three-storey building was planned to be built in 1927 as a Catholic sectarian school, which was related to the rural education homes and independent school communities. The institution of the institution was the society for rural higher home school charitable GmbH - with partners such as the Episcopal See in Trier, the Benedictine Abbey Maria Laach, the People's Association in Mönchengladbach and other church and social institutions

The building of the former home school at the Laacher lake is still standing today on a high plateau of the municipality Nickenich. Impressive and yet spooky, hard to imagine that this building was once a home school. Definitely a great highlight on this tour.

The former home school- built in 1927 (only the three-story transverse building of a once imposingly planned property)
- planned as a Catholic denominational school
-1928 School starts
With the National Socialists coming to power in 1933, the money for Catholic denominational schools was cut
-1934/35 School operations stopped
-intermediate use as a home for girls who have completed their country year
In 1944 the building was occupied by the V1 squad, Regiment 152 Quail. V1 rockets were made operational in the high forest adjacent to the building. Then they were transported to the launch ramps in the Eifel.
-After 1945 the building was no longer used. Theft and smashing ensured that only one ruin remained.- Interesting photo location but ATTENTION very risk of collapse and as far as I know demolition work should start there
