We drive on a section of the former Aachener Landgraben, which once marked the outer border of the Aachen empire. The rampart was originally covered with a dense beech hedge. Of the total of 138 landmarks, only about 20 are still present - they bear the coat of arms of the city of Aachen, the eagle, and are therefore also called "eagle stones".
