On the market street lovingly renovated Baroque and medieval houses lined up wall to wall. Particularly noteworthy are the extensive paintings, the "Lüftlmalereien".

The "most beautiful ballroom in the Oberland", as the Marktstrasse is praised by connoisseurs, owes its appearance today primarily to the Munich architect and home curator Gabriel von Seidl. Between 1900 and 1910 the market street was freed from partly neo-Gothic influences and adapted to the alpine style with new gable fronts. The facades of the large gabled houses from the 18th century, which are modeled on the Upper Bavarian farmhouses, were often provided with Lüftlmalerei.
An excellent example is the former town hall (today the city museum). By setting up a pedestrian zone with new natural stone paving based on the old model, this square-like street has gained in beauty

The old town, which is mainly characterized by the market street, has almost a certain Italian flair with its filigree houses.
