The Lydiaturm is a 23 meter high observation tower on the Veitskopf near Wassenach in the district of Ahrweiler inRheinland-Pfalz.A first observation tower made of wood opened on 19 August 1896, the local group Brohltal the Eifelverein, to allow a panoramic view of the Laacher Lake, the Brohltal up to Siebengebirgezu. The tower was named Lydia after the wife of Eifelverein founder Hans Andreae, who was particularly in favor of the construction of the tower. This tower existed until 1925 and then had to be closed due to disrepair. After sufficient donations had been collected, a 16-meter tower made of lava stone, which was opened on July 10, 1927, was built. During the Second World War, the tower served both German and Allied forces of the Enlightenment and was partially damaged considerably. An increase of the tower by 7 meters by means of a wooden attachment became necessary in 1986, since the surrounding trees had grown in the meantime

Very imposing tower, with breathtaking views of the Laacher lake and the surrounding area. Definitely worth the "climb" to the tower.

Always worth a tour: the Lydia Tower named after the wife of one of the builders above Lake Laacher. From here you have a fantastic view of the lake and the Eifel.
