In the 19th century, ships en route to Rotterdam anchored at Tiengemeten. For fear of diseases and contamination, the ships with the sick on board had to remain here for 40 days before they could continue to Rotterdam. The remains of the building belong to the quarantine hospital where the sick were nursed.
