The Listertalsperre is located in the southern Sauerland between the cities of Attendorn, Drolshagen and Meinerzhagen. The lake extends approximately in the center of the Ebbegebirge Nature Park. In addition to numerous nameless smaller tributaries, the lake is fed by the three major inlets Lister, Beche and Herpeler Bach, the Lister namesake of the dam is. The Listertalsperre was built from 13 September 1909 to 2 October 1912. The dam built according to the Intze principle accumulates the river Lister near Hunswinkel. The British air raid on the dam during Operation Chastise on the night of 16 to 17 May 1943 was unsuccessful. Today, the Listertalsperre is a tributary of the 1965 built Biggetalsperre. It has a storage capacity of 21.6 million cubic meters with a maximum water depth of 33.90 meters. The lister power plant generates around 4.6 million kWh of electricity per year using a Kaplan turbine. The Listertalsperre is 4500 meters long and up to 400 meters wide, resulting in a water area of 169 hectares. The fish population is very diverse and ranges from eels to zanders. The most common fish besides white fish are pike and vendace. But trout are also represented. Lately the carp stock has also grown.
