Where the site of the closed Maximilian colliery used to be, the state horticultural show was held in 1984 and the Maximilianpark was created on this basis. There is a children's playland, a butterfly house, many walking paths and a rich program of events. You can also see Hamm's landmark, the glass elephant, in the park.

A park on coal: Maximilianpark was created on the site of the former Maximilian colliery in 1984 on the occasion of the first state horticultural show. In the park, paths lead through colorful gardens, over unspoilt heaps, past a pond and swamp area and to the school garden from the Green Classroom. Here you dive into a world of art and nature. Seats in all park areas invite you to linger and relax. At the artificially created Maximiliansee, the lake terraces await you with a small snack amidst the colorful planting on the bank.
