In 1985 the Heimatverein Settrup was founded with the aim of building a village community center in Settrup. When in 1987 an old half-timbered house, which was under monument protection, was offered for sale, the association took hold of it. The half-timbered building stood on the site of the Ippenburg in Bad Essen and belonged to the von dem Busche family. After long deliberations and discussions, the Heimatverein decided to purchase this ailing half-timbered building. In an unprecedented joint effort, both financially and in terms of planning and craftsmanship, the building went "crazy" - which in retrospect turned out to be a wise decision
