The Aegidius cross commemorates St. Aegidius, one of the 14 helpers. According to legend, a deer fed his milk with God's will. During a hunt by the Visigoth king Wamba, the doe fled to Aegidius, who stood protectively in front of her. The king's arrow hit him. He was seriously injured but survived.
