The smallest of the 3 maars is nestled nicely in the crater about 100m lower than the surrounding area. A beautiful circular path leads around the Maar, a transition to the other Maaren and a path up to the observation tower. Swimming in the outdoor pool and boating are possible here.

If you are wondering what is a maar - here is the answer: A maar was created by a volcanic eruption when magma flows from the earth's interior towards the earth's surface. An explosive evaporation of groundwater created a crater that later filled with water.
The Gemündener Maar is approx. 38 meters deep and is located 1.5 kilometers from Daun. If you come here in summer, take swimming trunks with you, because unlike the other maars around Daun, swimming is allowed here and there is even a natural outdoor pool.

"Dense beech forest, which makes the sound of black and gray woodpeckers sound evenly, covers the steep slopes of the Gemündener Maars. The deeply wooded funnel has an almost mystical aura.
Coming from the Weinfelder Maar over the Eifelsteig, the view from the top opens onto the Maar, which is 150 m lower - a breathtaking scenery in dark blue and fresh green. In autumn, the forest shines, between leaves and deadwood thrive fascinating mushrooms.

Those who are brave may dive headfirst in the outdoor pool, even from a diving tower that is up to 7.5 m high. Take a rest on the sufficient lying areas, splash around with your child in the non-swimmer pool or treat yourself to a break in the kiosk. Also by boat, the Maar can be discovered with its reed beds and rooted Flachufern. Fish will only show up with good luck, because the low nutrient content makes the water worth living only for a few species. "Source: eifel.info/a-freibad-gemuendener-maar-1
