A watchtower was used in the late Middle Ages to detect enemy troops at an early stage. They were built mainly on trade routes (such as the donkey trail), as a customs station or in front of cities. The entrance was several meters high, so that one could only get in with a ladder, which the tower guard simply pulled in at danger. By this you can already see that the Seidenröther Warte is a replica: You can enter it at ground level and enjoy the beautiful view from the tower.
