The upper set of switchbacks on Copper Creek trail are gracefully under the shade of tall pine forest. Here the trail opens up onto a large area without trees, possibly due to fires many years ago, though the name is misleading: it is now covered by dense brush, and the steep terrain doesn't lend itself for tents except in two small spots.
