The origin of the name is that of "castra" from the Latin encampment. It is said that Hannibal, heading towards Rome, camped right on the top of the hill. After the fall of the Roman Empire, it was first a Lombard and then Byzantine possession in defense of the ancient "Via Amerina" which connected Rome to Ravenna. It then became part of the Terre Arnolfe together with Todi, Narni, Spoleto and Terni. There are bars and shops.
