The Schreckstein is a supposedly 650-year-old boundary stone west of the mountain of the same name, which demarcated the municipalities of Ensingen, Gündelbach, Illingen and Schützingen and later also marked the state border between Württemberg and Baden.
It stands on the mountain ridge on the hiking trail (HW 10) that leads from the Eselsburg through the Großer Fleckenwald to the west to the castle hill.
