The Engstlenalp with the Engstlensee lies at the end of the Gentals in the Bernese Oberland adjacent to the cantons Obwalden and Nidwalden. The alp is surrounded to the north, east and south by the mountains Gwärtler (2421 m above sea level), Graustock (2662 m above sea level), Schafberg (2522 m above sea level), Jochstock (2563 m above sea level) .), Titlis (3238 m above sea level), Reissend Nollen (3002 m above sea level), Wendenstöcke (Gross Wendenstock 3042 m above sea level and Chli Wendenstock 2957 m above sea level), Pfaffenhuet (3009 m above sea level) M.) and Moravia (2970 m above sea level) (clockwise, starting in the north).On the alp there are several Alpine buildings, a hotel and a large parking lot. Because of its location between the glaciated Titlis and the impressive mountain scenery and the diverse flora, the area was placed under protection in 1973.
