The Timmermans Brewery is located in Itterbeek, a few kilometers from the center of Brussels. Lambic has been brewed there for more than 300 years, namely since 1702.
The brewery, which was kept running by Jan Vandermeulen, was then known as Brouwerij De Mol and was not only a brewery, but also a farm, fruit nursery, malt house and café.
A clear mention of Lambic beer and Faro en Meer is from the Walravens brewery, appears in 1866 in the minutes of a public sale in Brussels
When the youngest daughter of Paul Walravens, Celina, married a brewer's son Frans Timmermans from Zuun in 1911, the big change was a fact. The farm and fruit farm were closed and all energy was focused on the brewery. This also meant that from now on people had to buy cherries.
The management of the brewery was taken over in 1959 by Raoul and Jacques Van Cutsem, grandsons of Frans Timmermans. The company became a partnership in 1962. In 1984 the cigarette paper producer Rizla bought it. In 1989 a modern bottling plant was opened. Rizla sold his majority stake in 1993 to the beer company John Martin from Genval. Only later did they become owners of the brewery buildings themselves.
