Location: Wangenburg-Engenthal, Molsheim, Alsace, France
The castle is located 480m above sea level in the small village of Wangenbourg. It was erected in the 13th century in Vosges sandstone by the Lords of Wangen, on a natural rocky outcrop. This mount castle served as a defense against looters. The villagers were welcomed into the castle in order to be safe. To access it, you have to cross a bridge that leads directly to the inner courtyard. From there you can admire the many windows, as well as the remains of a magnificent Gothic style fireplace. You can then access the 24m dungeon and climb it if you have the courage. Once the ascent is complete, you will have a breathtaking panorama of the Mossig valley before your eyes. The tour of the tower is however open from April to November. And it is possible to visit the castle on a free visit all year round. Access is free and free all year round. There is parking at the tourist office.
