His Majesty, the Großglockner: the highest mountain in Austria. Can only be attempted in good weather conditions, with sufficient climbing experience and good planning. If in doubt, hire a mountain guide in Kals.

With a height of 3,798 meters, the Großglockner is the highest mountain in Austria. The normal route is a very varied mountain tour, some glacier, easy rock climbing and a summit ridge that is somewhat exposed. At the summit you can see the Ortler in the west, the Watzmann in the north, the Dolomites in the south and we are right in the middle of it all. We spend the night at the Erzherzog Johann Hütte, also called Adlersruhe, at 3,454 meters.

The hut was opened in 1880 and is a good place to stop for a break on the way to the Großglockner.
