This slate tunnel between Haintchen and Eisenbach was only built a few years after the execution of the most famous German robber Schinderhannes (Johannes Bückler) and therefore cannot be related to him. In fact, he was arrested nearby on May 31, 1802 between Haintchen and Wolfenhausen.

The “Schinderhannespfad” hiking trail runs a few kilometers to the east.

At Hasselbach in the district of Schieferlay there is a very hidden slate tunnel of the same name ("Schinderhannesgrube" and also on Komoot as a highlight). In the Hasselbach village school you learned that Schinderhannes was hiding from the police there for several days. This tunnel is now under water. A few decades ago there were private initiatives to pump out the water, but these failed. Whether the Schinderhannes really was in the "Hasselbacher Schinderhanneshöhle" is also questionable, but at least it already existed for a long time during his lifetime.

The cave actually has nothing to do with the Schinderhannes. Rather, it is a short slate mining gallery from the 19th century. Please stay outside so as not to disturb the bats!
