An allied army of Brunswick-Lüneburg, Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Hesse-Kassel and British troops led by Duke Ferdinand of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel defeated a slightly stronger French army detachment under the Comte de Muy.
This victory enabled the Allies to defend at least the Diemel Line and thus Westphalia, while at the same time having to give up Hesse-Kassel.
