On August 27, 1948, when the number of animal casualties attributed to the 'strangler' had already fallen sharply, the 61-year-old farmer Hermann Gaatz from Eilte (Heidekreis) fired from a high seat in the Schotenheide on a wolf, which is currently at some Stalked deer.
