Beautiful hiking and cycling route. You have to stop here and look.
The Nordfeld coal mine existed between 1889 and 1905 on the northern slope of the Höcherberg on the Saarland town of Höchen between the towns of Höchen, Waldmohr and Dunzweiler.
After a pit was built in neighboring Frankenholz in 1879, the Leipzig merchant Rosenthal suspected that the seams found there would continue in a northeasterly direction.Due to the geological conditions actually found, it soon became clear that the amount of coal that could be economically extracted would be disproportionate to the investments that had already been made.
