The Melide dam bridge was built from 1844 to 1847 to connect the two shores of Lake Lugano between Melide and Bissone in the Canton of Ticino. Since 1874 it also allows the passage of the Gotthard Railway, which connects Chiasso to Lucerne. The bridge is built on a natural moraine that approaches the other bank.
