The Ammersee - Bavaria's third largest lake - is a popular bathing and recreational destination, especially from the Munich catchment area. The lake offers numerous recreational opportunities, such as swimming, fishing, sailing, windsurfing, shipping, hiking and mountain biking - there is something for every taste.

The nature and its enormous biodiversity around the Ammersee are preserved by the designated Ramsar protected area with its four nature protection areas. Especially bird lovers get their money's worth on the Ammersee. In the "bird sanctuary Ammersee south shore" live endangered species of birds such as the tit-tit and the Pupurherher. The "Ampermoos" in the north of the lake is considered the largest German breeding area for lapwings.

A hike to the monastery Andechs is a pleasure, especially in the summer, because the coolness of the monastery offers a welcome change on hot days. It takes about two hours to walk from Herrsching. Easily walkable paths lead through a forest area.

The Ammersee is always worth a trip, whether by bike around the lake or relaxing with one of the ships to take a tour.

The lake invites you to swim. Well attended in summer but that's normal.
    The lake is very clean.

The longest lake promenade in Germany. Outside the high season, it is really great here. Especially with a clear view towards the mountains, with the windy lake in the Vorsergrund.

In the summer often very busy, so be careful on the roads, lots of public. Otherwise fantastic view and beautiful landscape. Ideal to linger and take a break.

Wonderful corner here by the lake invites you to linger. A detour to Andechs Monastery is also recommended from here.

Very brilliant place at Herrsching. In the season, a visit on weekdays in the morning or late evening is recommended. Out of season awesome but also a little cooler water ;-).

Night market in Herrsching in the morning - still nothing going on, but some stalls have already opened, especially the coffee cart with the best latte ever ... 😋

Herrsching am Ammersee would actually be a better title for this highlight, since the Ammersee offers a wide range of different paths, paths and much more. Always worth a trip, excellent infrastructure and ordinary people are not locked out of the water. Small and large trails line its banks, but consideration is required. Especially on weekends, from Stegen to Herrsching (i.e. the east bank) almost no get through. Then off to the south and to the west bank.
