The Gier aqueduct is one of the ancient aqueducts in Lyon serving the ancient city of Lugdunum. With its 85 km, it is the longest of the four aqueducts that supplied the city with water, and the one whose structures are the best preserved. It owes its name to the fact that it draws from the sources of the Gier, a tributary of the Rhône. The remains of the aqueduct are subject to multiple protections as historical monuments: classifications in 1875 (Bonnand siphon bridge) 1 on March 20, 19122 (arches) and 1986 (Piles des Crêtes).
