In the cave network of the stalactite caves in the Lorzentobel you can, it seems, truly descend into hell on a visit. The obscure forms of the stalactite structures did not give the first visitors associations of magical and demonic powers. The name once had a completely opposite origin, because the area around the caves actually referred to a comparatively "bright" forest clearing in the Lorzentobel, which was pronounced colloquially as "hell" and only later gained its current meaning.

Mountain biking

The Höllgrotten Baar were discovered in 1863 during the mining of tuff stone and were made more and more accessible until 1917. Thanks to an artificial connecting tunnel, you can now visit the entire grotto; a tour takes about 45 minutes.

The grotto is open from April 1st to October 31st from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Since they are privately owned, there is an admission fee. You can find more information here: hoellgrotten.ch.
