"It has a checkered history, the windmill in the Hansell family. Once it was operated by wind and water at the same time.

The Hanseller Mill is a historic windmill in the Hansell district of the Altenberge municipality in the Steinfurt district. The building is a listed building and its origins date back over 300 years.
The windmill was originally built in 1770 by farmer Schulze Dahl as a post mill. In 1854, it was converted into a so-called "eight-sided Dutch windmill," an octagonal Dutch windmill. Even without its wings, the building is worth seeing due to its striking design and is a popular destination in the region. The Hanseller Mill was converted into an eight-sided Dutch windmill in 1854 because this type of mill was more powerful and economical than the old post mill. The conversion enabled a larger and more stable structure, as well as more efficient operation through better wind utilization and greater grinding capacity. Another advantage was the ability to operate wind turbines, making mill operation less weather-dependent and more convenient.
