Location: Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland, United Kingdom
If you are visiting the Old Alloa Docks, you can enjoy a glimpse of the past when Alloa was a bustling river port with ships trading with Scandinavia and the Low Countries. You can see the remains of the dry dock, built in 1790, and the wet dock, built in 1863, as well as some of the old industrial buildings that have been regenerated. You can also learn about the history of the port, which dates back to the 16th century, and how it served the local coal, salt, glass and brewing industries. The port closed in 1970 due to competition from larger and more modern ports. The Old Alloa Docks are located on The Shore, near the River Forth.
