Tips
One of the most fascinating phenomena for nature lovers is the crane train. In the fall of each year, the cranes, which mainly come from Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, gather for a long time in order to embark on the long journey to winter quarters, especially in Spain. Also in the nature park Steinhuder Meer and the bordering regions one can observe the animals on clear evenings. They fly in wedge-shaped formations partly at high altitudes over the area. Characteristic are their trumpet-like calls. Cranes are excellent and enduring fliers.
