Ashbridge is a beautiful country estate and stately home set amongst 5000 acres of woodlands and parkland. Owned by the National Trust, the estate has a rich history. In 1283, Ashbridge was used as a monastery college before being taken by Henry VIII during the Disollution of the Monasteries. The estate then passed into the hands of Elizabeth I.

Over the next centuries, the estate belonged to the Egerton and Brownlow families who created the house as it is now.

In more recent history, Ashridge has featured in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and is now used as a business school. There is an on-site visitor centre, shop and cafe. You can visit the estate from dawn until dusk. Prices cost £2.50 per adult.

Ashridge house and the surrounding woods are a great spot for a ride or a run. Elizabeth 1 spent parts of her childhood at the house.

This was on my route unexpectedly. Left my mouth open for a bit. Very beautiful.
