The highest mountain in Bulgaria and second highest in the Balkans at 2925 meters. At the summit is a meteorological station packed in a Faraday cage for protection against lightning. Especially in August and at the weekends a lot of rush, therefore preferably with the first track up.

Beautiful views but it is not so hard to reach the highest peak in the Balkans so it is usually overcrowded. There are alternative routes to Musala peak that are not so common (e.g. Musalenski venets - through Markudzhitsite and Aleko peak) where you can enjoy the nature :)

    Great hike. gladly again...
BTW: At that time there was no train / lift / or other aids. Then it was still: 20kg on your back - and the last meters after 50 steps a little rest ... 😁
And it wasn't overcrowded back then either. We were the only visitors there.
